Yet another check list from NASA. To avoid confusion, this check list is a check list for the design review itself, as opposed to the check list that lists what to look for in the design documents during a review.

A well thought out and structured template for a design review. This ‘template’ more of a format description rather than a template (doc) that can be downloaded. That said the real value of this resource is in the presentation and description of the ‘why’ with the ‘what’. The references quoted, as the basis for designing the format, include IEEE, SEI and DOD.

Another in our “it’s from NASA but it’s not rocket science” collection of useful software testing templates. This check list calls out the main design specification questions, including is the logic correct?, error messages helpful and understandable, performance issues, maintainability, database requirements etc. This one is presented for it’s general format, simplicity and as a basis for enhancement to be used in a commercial application setting.

This article lists the essential components of an effective design walkthrough.
