Wikipedia nails the whole system scope definition and describes types of system testing, including performance. At the software testing directory we list performance testing under a separate category as it can also be applied to unit, regression and other testing phases. This categorization (within software-testing.net) is also followed for the other so called non-functional tests such as usability, security etc.
